Ballet for adults from zero to any experience in ballet who are looking to start a dancer training or a fun way to stay in shape. The emphasis in the class will be teaching body alignment/placement, strength and flexibility.
Welcome Maylu Pena
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Maylu started her ballet training at Teatro Teresa Carreno School in Caracas and graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Danza in 2010 after completing the eight years of Vaganova technique training, earning a Diploma in Classical Ballet with a minor in Contemporary dance. Ms. Pena received additional training from Ruta Butviliene, Nina Novak, and Rita Dordelly.
After graduation, Ms. Pena joined the Nuevo Mundo Ballet Company in Caracas where
she dance until she moved to the United States in 2011. As soon as Maylu moved to the
US, she trained, danced and taught for Metropolitan Ballet under the artistic direction of
Tatiana Berevova. She attended to Joffrey Ballet School for a Summer Program in New
York in a full scholarship, and Joffrey Ballet Chicago on half scholarship. Maylu also received profesional trained from Ballet Master and former faculty of Joffrey Ballet Chicago, Victoria Vargas, who has been Maylu’s former coach. Maylu has danced professionally and toured state-wide with St. Paul Ballet, Cities Classical Dance Ensemble and Minneapolis Ballet Dancers and is currently a soloist with Continental Ballet Company. ! Maylu has served as the Academy Director of Metropolitan Ballet for 2 years and was the co-founder of Minneapolis Ballet Dancers in 2016. Maylu has been the former instructor and choreographer of the profesional ballet program at North Ballet Academy for the last 4 years; Maylu’s method of technique is The Fifth Position that has provided her students to be able to get accepted to the School of American Ballet summer intensive, The Washington Ballet, Elison Ballet, Milwakee Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet New York and Boston Ballet summer intensives. !
Maylu has also modeled for Jose Villalobos in different projects in the Twin Cities, appearedin The Lavender Magazine August 2016, La PRENSA Minnesota in 2015 and the
HOLA magazine in Latin America June 2016 among others.
